The Health Benefits of Essential Oils
I am a true believer of Essential Oils! The health benefits of essentials oils can be felt both through topical and aromatic use! I use them every day whether in my office to increase energy with lemon or at night to be calm and relaxed while unwinding with Lavender!
So what exactly are essential oils?
Essential oils are simply organic compounds extracted directly from plants and provide a variety of healing and wellness solutions.
For several thousand years many different cultures and countries have used the healing plant oils for various health conditions and healing properties. The use of essential oils for health has also often been call aromatherapy.
Essential oils are used for relaxation, skin and personal body care, weight loss, and are often thought of as natural medicine.
Many of the benefits of Essential Oils is noted below:
- Reduce cellulite
- Fight cold and flu
- Relax your body and deepen your sleep
- Heal skin conditions such as psoriasis
- Improve gut health and overall digestion
- Loose weight
- Improve Hair Health
How to use Essential Oils:
- You can diffuse essential oils in a diffuser (the diffuser will provide instructions but you will dilute with regular tap water and several drops of your favorite essential oil)
- Apply topically to your skin or hair depending on the type of essential oil, and what you are looking not accomplish. Often you will mix with a carrier oil such as avocado oil, coconut oil, grape seed oil, etc which allows for a few drops to go a very long way.
My favorite day to day uses for Essential Oils:
- Rosemary and Frankincense (hair health and hair growth) – either put several drops of each in a carrier oil (I use grape seed oil or coconut oil) and rub onto your scalp and through your hair for 1-2 minutes daily.
- Lavender – I put 8-10 drops of Lavender in my diffuser every night (tip: I use my bedroom diffuser only for Lavender and do not mix other energizing essential oils in the same diffuser to ensure optimal benefits of the Lavender).
- Grapefruit – for weigh loss. I diffuse in the morning for a couple of hours and also often will put a few drops of Grapefruit with a carrier oil and rub on my stomach and thighs and/or anywhere else that I want to penetrate for weight loss.
- Lemon for energy!
- Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Cinnamon Bark, Clover (this is a blend offered by Veriditas) called “Good Samaritan” which is like a natural disinfect and to help eliminate germs in the air. I typically diffuse this only but can also be applied to clothes and hair to keep microbes at bay.
- Peppermint, Lemon, Grapefruit, Lavender, Rosemary, Basil (this is a blend offered by Veriditas) providing “Mental Clarity”. I diffuse this and also will often put a few drops in my hands and breath deeply 5 times. You can also rub excess on your shoulders and scalp.
Important note: There are different types of essential oils (those for fragrance only — which is not what this blog is all about and not recommended) and 100% therapeutic essential oils (it will say 100% therapeutic on the label). The 100% therapeutic oils do put a very nice scent in the air!
My favorite essential oils are by Veriditas out of France and their oils are 100% Organic.
